The Erimus Social Club
The Erimus Social Club from Middlesbrough had its first trip to Stonebridge Fishery on Saturday 30/05/09, never having fished the venue before we had little idea what to expect. The warm welcome from the owner Richard and the advice he provided were much appreciated as were the tea and sarnies before the match.
This is a lovely venue in unspoilt countryside, the lake was fairly clear unlike some venues which resemble muddy puddles, it was a lovely day, nice and sunny with just enough breeze to put a ripple on the surface.
There were 12 of us fishing the match and as is the want with club matches there were probably 12 different styles and methods used.
The winner was Paul Bland on peg 39, he fished worm and caster at 5mtr taking some nice ide before switching to method feeder using micro pellets and hair rigged redmeat and connecting with 9 or 10 fin perfect common carp for 43lb 08oz, second was Ashley our newest member who fished method feeder to the aerator for 37lb 02oz
Third was Dave Connor who fished worm and caster for 19lb 03oz.
Everyone caught, with most in double figures, unfortunately the golden carp didnt come out on the day so the fishery kitty for that increased by another few quid.
The Carp in this lake fight like tigers, it was taking 5 mins to land a 3-4pounder and the commons are beautiful fish that never know when they are beaten, even the Ide go well.
The beauty of this venue is that it is not all about Carp, there are plenty of silvers to keep you interested if the Carp dont feed.
Our thanks to Richard for a smashing days fishing and we are all looking forward to returning in July for another match.
I would recommend this fishery to anyone who likes nice peaceful surroundings with the chance to catch the hardest fighting Carp I have ever come across.

12 April 2009 - Get Hooked
The morning started cold with a covering of ground frost. As the sun broke, conditions warmed quickly. The match was fished with 19 anglers, with the first carp of the day coming off peg 12 by Paul Longstaff. Peg 24 was the best producer of carp with Ryan Midlleton catching consistently throughout the day with a weight of 31lb 9oz. Peg 19 was another good position on the lake with a weight of 21lb 10oz for Paul Neasham. Ryan Barker harvested a good bag of silvers before turning on late with carp to give a weight of 21lb. The lake produced the majority of carp from the open water end of the lake but all anglers enjoyed mixed bags of gold and blue orfe and ide. Large weights caught on maggot, pellet and paste. Conditions were birght with varied wind.

Haughton Angling Section
A fine spring-like day greeted the anglers for their first outing of the year to Stonebridge Fishing Lakes' course angling venue, St Claudes Lake. The breeze was light, which produced a nice ripple on the water.
From the off, the silver fish began to show and for some anglers a 'fish a chuck' was the norm. Bags built up as fish were taken on maggot, worm, pellet and corn from most areas of the lake. As the breeze turned to a biting gale, the water lashed into waves, which on some pegs were breaking onto the anglers feet. The bites therefore became less frequent as presentation suffered. Silvers then failed to show and most anglers suffered a barren period to the end of the match.
Only the occasional carp were being taken as they seemed to move around and feed only every now and then. Andy Nelson put together a weight of 25lb 10oz on peg 34 and gained first spot, closely followed by Colin Metcalf on peg 8 with 25lb 1oz. Anth Anderson was third with a weight of 22lb 10oz followed by Johnny Maddison with 22lb 4oz.

Ormesby Coarse Match
With snow and cold winds prevailing throughout the week, fishing was expected to be hard. Wayne Keenan found the carp on hair rigged corn on the bomb rod with a great weight of 21lb 12oz. Robert Thirwell fished the maggots with a net of 11lb 8oz mainly consisting of ide. Dave Watson, with the same approach, had a weight of 8lb 4oz.

On the 15th February Big Waters AC had their Winter League match on St. Claudes at Stonebridge Lakes. The recent exceptionally cold weather had put the match in doubt but, thanks to the considerable efforts of Richard and Eric, the match went ahead as planned.
The lake had been largely frozen the day prior to our visit, but our two hosts spent Saturday evening clearing as much of the ice as they could, (Richard was down at the lake at midnight!). Leaving the aerators on all night ensured that we were okay on the day.
To say we received a warm welcome would be the understatement of the year. Richard and Eric could not have been more accommodating, also making sure we were all well breakfasted before we began.
I was fully prepared for a very difficult day, given the conditions, (after all, on another commercial fishery the previous week not one of us even had a bite, never mind a fish!). However, the fish clearly felt otherwise, and the match was won with 26lb 8oz, 24lb was second and 15lb third. Weights which, given the conditions, were excellents.
The winning weight came off the un-numbered peg just before peg 33, in the small bay. The fish comprised about 8lb of silvers with the rest carp. The method was double red maggot over loose fed casters at 14 metres.
I would recommend anyone looking for a day's fishing to seriously consider a visit to Stonebridge. The whole venue is beautifully maintained in a very picturesque setting, and Richard and Eric are first rate hosts.
We will definitely be returning.

Get Hooked - First club match of 2009
Stonebridge Fishing Lakes saw its first club match of 2009 with the club Get Hooked on St Claudes Coarse Lake. Early morning saw tea and bacon sandwiches as first order of the day.
The exciting banter and anticipation was followed by the draw at the fishing lodge.
Get Hooked Fishing Club, based in Redcar, braved attrocious weather conditions throughout the day with bitterly cold easterly winds and intermittent snow showers. At least the hard result wasn't too bad bearing in mind the bags the club had caught in 2008.

The Report
Hello there!
Just a short line to thank you for a really good day's fishing.
From the moment we arrived at Stonebridge, we felt 'this was the friendly venue that we had been searching for' we were looked after really well by everyone on site. The tea and bacon sandwiches gave the day a tasty start and the opportunity for plenty of banter and social, which is an important part of our day as we are not top drawer anglers! Richard assisted us to peg and then we held the draw. None of our members had fished here before except the assistant secretary, (me) so tactics and bait were the important topics. Richard and Eric then escorted us down to St. Claude's lake, where we quickly went to our pegs after being issued with 2 Garbolino keepnets and a landing net each, what a great idea to ensure safety and health of fish stocks!
We fished from 0900 hrs to 1400 hrs. The weather was fine but breezy; the water temperature was warm and the water clear enough to see orange coloured Orfe cruising around. We fished the island end of St. Claude's and were surprised at the depth, close in, with most pegs having a good 6 feet just 2 metres out! The beauty of this lake is that the island is well out of pole range, which opens up the list of available options, Pole, waggler, tip and whip options were all used on the day.
All of our members enjoyed a great day's fishing on St. Claude's lake with weights between 7lb and 42 lb of Blue orfe, golden orfe, ide, roach, gudgeon, skimmers, common carp. The fish we caught in this lake were mainly, less than 12 oz, the carp mostly under 2 lb. Although I did manage to catch a Grass Carp of about 3lb!
The successful method on the day was to use a whip at 5 metres to hand; feeding small balls of groundbait every cast with a few loose fed maggots. This kept the fish coming all day! It is worth mentioning that staff prefer, no more than 20 lb of silverfish in one net. The venue presents anglers with a dilemma, fish for the carp but be prepared to be beaten by a net of silvers! Or vice versa.
Richard and Eric kept an unobtrusive eye on us during the match but there were no problems and all too soon the day was over. We were assisted with the weigh in by Richard and Eric, who took their time to ensure that the fish were carefully treated, weighed and returned. The sight of these fin perfect, colourful nets of silvers and blue and golden orfe was an image we don't often see up north, let's have more of it!
All of our members enjoyed an unforgettable match at a brilliant venue, we will struggle to better this day for the rest of the year, and we will be back soon!
Thanks Richard for a great day, we will try to book up soon, whilst there is still some availability.

Bright Sunny but windy conditions made fishing the pole difficult but John Millican fishing paste at 10 metres on peg 37 managed to claw 29lb 12oz from the choppy waters of St Claudes Lake. The Silver Fish deserted him after the first hour but then he found several good carp before the all out.

Sunday 4th May
On Sunday 4th May Stonebridge Fishing Lakes open match saw 9 anglers. After another cold night before the match the expectations of the Carp feeding heavily were low, however this didn't prove a problem for Mark Whittaker who fished meat and pellet on the bomb and on a short pole netting an awesome bag of 69lbs 6oz consisting mainly of Carp. Also the Silvers weren't affected with the wintery night on the Saturday as Dave Hammel proved with a nice bag of 42lbs 2oz of Slivers caught on a short pole fishing corn over hemp. Steve Barker found success also fishing the short pole using maggot and caster landing himself a bag of 40lbs.

First Match on St Claudes Lake
Stonebridge Fishing Lakes first opening of the new 46 pegged well stocked Coarse/Match Lake.
Before the official opening for matches on Sunday 21st April a small friendly match of 5 people soon turned into 14 by word of mouth. The buzz around the lodge on Sunday morning before the start of the match was exciting to say the least (so were the bacon sandwiches!). With the fishermen in such anticipation to get to their pegs the draw was made.
On arrival at the pegs the fishermen were surprised to find not only carp and silver fish keep nets also Stonebridge's own landing nets and handles. With the kick off of the 5 hour match it wasn't long before fishermen were into fish all round the lake. With the lake never been fished before the fishermen made their approach with different methods fishing for Carp or Silver's.
After a lively 5 hour match the fish were weighed and the result were in.
Meat and pellet proved very productive for Stuart Sexton from Scorton who netted around 20 Carp. Also Anthony Murray from Darlington went with a different approach fishing for Silver fish to hand and Gary Ellwood also of Darlington found pellet and punched meat very successful netting Carp and Silvers.
After a great days fishing the results were as follows.
- Stuart Sexton with 66lbs 1 oz of Carp
- Anthony Murray with 61lbs 12oz of mainly Silvers
- Gary Ellwood with 53lbs 8oz of Carp and Silvers
- Mark Reeve with 41lb 4oz of Carp and Silvers
- Mark Whittaker with 37lbs 8oz of Carp and Silvers
- Kenny Gales with 35lbs 12oz of mainly Silvers along with a nice doubled figured Carp.
A very productive match with a turn out of fourteen, 470lbs of fish were caught throughout the match with an average of 33lbs 8oz per angler. All in all a very eventful day.
Leisure angler Chris Welsh had popped in on the Friday before the match from the hearsay he had heard that a new lake was opening. On purchasing a 6 pound leisure day ticket he had an awesome hall of 140lb of Carp along with 10lbs of Silvers. On the same day leisure angler Richard Thompson fished for three and a half hours and had an impressive bag of 86lbs mainly Silvers.
