Pole Tactics
Stonebridge Carp Lake which up until now has only infrequently fished, is showing some of its potential yeilding good fish to pole tactics. Andrew Herbert from Middlesbrough, in a very short afternoon session caught a lovely carp just shy of 10lbs on a single expanding carp peuet presented 18 inches from the margin reeds.
Adam Craighilton from Darlington used 3.5 metres of his pole, twelve elastic to 4lb ilne and a size 14 hook baited with single grains of sweetcorn to tempt 8 carp, the best being a pristine 9lb 2oz common. (Photo's 015 017) Another bigger carp was hooked but managed to evade capture after putting up a spirited fight.
Thanks
Thanks for the excellent day I spent at Stonebridge-the welcome I received was warm and genuine-the enthusiasm infectious. From what I saw and experienced, you deserve every sucess in your venture.
Can I put a word in for the diminishing band of what are often (usually insultingly)called "pleasure anglers"? We enjoy catching a mixed bag of fish-the odd good fish being a welcome bonus, we aren't driven to staying out all night or driven by a constant search for personal bests- the thought of chucking out a bait on a bolt rig and going to sleep pending an alarm signalling another tethered fish just isn't cricket-or angling come to that!!
Some fisheries have gone down the route of packing ther lakes with the heaviest fish they can get hold of plus very heavy stocking of pasty sized carp and bream this leads to stressed underweight fish and consequent disease.
Don't think I am trying to tell you how to run your business,I love the lake but fear for the future.
See you again soon-unless you bar me!!

Great first visit
Hi Richard,
Thanks for a great first visit, it started of quite slow, but after taking a break for the must have full English, i returned to see a swim exploding with fissing of the feeding carp, from that point i could not fall off, it was nearly a fish a chuck, i found that simple was the best and just fished maggot feeder, with a end total of 34 fish topping at 8 pounds.
All i can say to anyone thinking about trying Stonebridge is it is one of the nicest natural ponds ive fished with a owner who cares and not just after how much money he can pocket as other comercial fisheries i could mention, dont miss out on this fantastic fishery TRY IT !!!!!
thanks once again and see you soon
Dave

Dear richard,
just a note to say thank you for a great days fishing,
- and breakfast, after a slow start it turned out to be one of the best
days fishing i have had in a long time, caught fish on the pole up to 3 pound all day,
which was good sport, started to ache so went onto feeder and had a better day with fish up to 9 pound,
will definetly be back.
It is nice to find such good ponds with nice people
good surroundings, and best of all good fishing wish
you all the best,
Wayne
Another great day
Hi Richard,
Just like to say thanks for another great day at stonebridge. I have attached a photo of one of the fish caught during the session for you to take a look at. It has got to be one of the finest looking carp I have ever netted and it shows the great condition the stonebridge fish are in. Will see you soon.

Full English
Hi,
I would just like to say a great big thankyou for the hospitality and warm welcome given to my dad and I on our first visit to Stonebridge. The day ended in a total of 16 fish for my dad ranging from a 1lb up to 3lb and 7 for myself with a great specimen of 10lb 2oz (my first double figure carp and my personal best, photo attached).
Although the fishing was great the highlight had to be the full english breakfast (what a feast) washed down with a great mug of tea, a meal fit for a king.
So once again thanks for a great day out, hopefully back next week.
One last thing please, please, please keep the carp pond the way it is, it is an absolute gem.

Well another fun day at Stonebridge for my son Brian and myself, with plenty of fish for us both. Every time we fish the carp lake we have it all to ourselves which is great. I should be selfish and write a bad report to keep the anglers away, but we always come away with a smile on our faces having had a great days fishing!
This week we had great success on the top with floating baits, always an exciting way to catch. Our biggest tipped the scales at exactly ten pounds, so our first double - just! I enclose a few more photos to wet the appetite. It's just a pleasure to fish, in nice surroundings, and with a warm welcome every time.
Richard has told us that some ghost carp have been ordered around the twenty five pound mark, and with some thirties due in the future, I guess we won't have it all to ourselves for long, so we had better make the most of it now.
Well I suppose I've shot myself in the foot enough, so once again "thanks for the fun".
Best Regards Dave (Eastwood)
Letter from David Hutchinson
What a day, Dad David Hutchinson from Darlington took his sons Daniel age 12, and Dylan Age 5 for a days fishing.
The weather was perfect and so was the fishing in the lake. The scenery was idyllic, Carp heaven!
For young Dylan it will be a day he will always remember, using a simple 2 piece 5 ft rod and 4lb line, he was equipped with a cage feeder which was filled with a simple mix of chopped bread corn and maize, he added a 14 inch leader 2lb line with size 18 hook and two white maggots attached.
After he made his first ever cast he had his first ever carp on line which he landed with a mix of nervous excitement and worry he might get eaten by the fish!
The Common carp weighed in at just 6oz but the excitement will never be lost.
On the day the family caught a total of 67 fish with a couple of 3lb Chub and a three 2lb trout thrown in to the bargain.
- Well worth ten quid of anybodies money.
Fishing tip if you want a lot of fish use red maggots, for the bigger stuff dumbell boilies work a treat Formula one seems to go best.
David & Brian Eastwood
On the 1st April Father & Son David & Brian Eastwood returned a catch of 16 & 15 fish from the carp lake - Brians haul including a 7 ½ pounder
